Batter up! It’s summertime, which means many major-league baseball teams are hosting dog-friendly days at the ballpark.

For our i Love Dog-Friendly August spotlight on the Sunshine State, we’ve got the details on the Tampa Bay Rays’ first-ever dog-friendly baseball game. According to TBO.com, the Bark in the Park event will take place on “Family Fun Day,” Aug. 5, at Tropicana Field.

On game day, pet parents will be seated in a special area reserved for dogs. The Rays will also turn their Party Deck into a “Dog Zone” with an SPCA of Tampa Bay pet adoption booth and activities for dogs and their owners.

To attend the game, your dog must have the required vaccinations and must be leashed (no retractable leashes) and licensed. The Rays reserve the right to deny any dog or human entrance to Tropicana Field for the event.

If you’re planning on attending the game with your pooch, be sure to keep your dog safe in the summer heat. If your pooch seems sluggish, unresponsive or starts vomiting, he might be overheating. The best thing to do if this happens is to remove your dog from direct sunlight and let him drink water.

And if you do take your dog out to the ballgame, avoid the urge to sneak him any chocolate and ensure he doesn’t sip any beer, as these are common foods toxic to dogs.
